Black Bean Brownies: Valentine’s Day

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

I know what you must be thinking… black beans and brownies?! While they may not sound like the ideal combination, black beans make the perfect addition to your ordinary brownie recipe. With Valentine’s Day approaching, the Martha Stewart in me kicks in and the baking commences… So I decided to give these a go, and after browsing for the perfect recipe (and reading many horror stories from others), I stumbled upon Chocolate Covered Katie’s perfected version. While you can taste the difference between a gluttenous butter-induced brownie and one that eliminates butter and lots of sugar, these still are pretty good and seem to satisfy my chocolate cravings! Plus, you don’t feel as bad eating one or three once you see the list of ingredients.

If you’re curious as to how they turned out keep on reading!

Gift Guide: For Her (Under $50!)

pexels-photo-76931

December is right around the corner and ’tis the season for gift giving… sorry wallet. I’ve done a lot of brainstorming and researching on what I’m going to get loved ones this year and have come across some pretty cool things along the way. Since I’m already behind on my Christmas shopping (as in actually buying the items), consider this a push to start yours and snag a few things on this list before its too late. There’s nothing worse then when you’re going to order something online and come across the dreaded ‘Sold Out’. Or even worse… it’s in-stock but you don’t make the shipping cut off times. Worst. thing. ever.

For the special woman or women in your life (whatever floats your boat), whether that be a mother, sister, friend, co-worker, etc., here are my unique and thoughtful finds that stay within a $50 budget. I guarantee you’ll find something for everyone!

5 Things To Do in Toronto During The Holiday Season

5-things-to-do-in-toronto

Days have become shorter, nights longer, and the weather… colder. While it is very tempting to stay warm indoors and lay in bed to watch Netflix all night, there are some fun activities one can do to enjoy the holiday season and all it has to offer!

Personally I love the holiday season and everything about it.  I love how all the stores are beautifully decorated with attracting window displays, like Saks and Hudson’s Bay, to name a few. I love getting together with friends and family, decorating, shopping for others, and watching all the fun and somewhat tacky Christmas movies/shows.

With that in mind, there are many events to attend if you’re looking for a fun night out to change your usual Winter day. I’ve curated a list of my Top 5 Things To Do in Toronto During The Holiday Season that I guarantee will push your boredom away!

Keep reading to see where to go!

Mini Protein Doughnuts

mini-protein-donuts-2

There is no denying my gluttonous love for all things on the dessert scale: cakes, muffins, pies, cookies, and most especially…. doughnuts. Now we all know none of these are considered healthy but they can be with the right ingredients or alternative substitutes. I recently purchased a mini donut maker, which may or may not be a good thing but it was on sale ($9.99). It gave me a good excuse to eat doughnuts, but also try and experiment a way that would make them healthier, a win-win right?!

After some initial thinking and brainstorming I decided I would try to make a healthier mini doughnut recipe with protein. I mean I might as well make them somewhat nutritious! Since they are baked and are not deep fryed like typical doughnuts, it gives them a unique texture with all the same goodness, I promise. These are great to grab as a snack on-the-go, as a post-workout treat, or even as a dessert component after dinner.

If you’re looking for a guilt-free, low-gluten recipe this is the one for you!

Top 5 Fall Nail Polishes

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

The same way the seasons change, so does my nail polish selection. I have always been into neutrals (and my closet can attest to that) but during the fall I definitely lean more towards mauve and taupe nail polish colours. Perhaps it is the warmth the season brings (and by no means do I mean the weather) but more so with Thanksgiving passing and Christmas around the corner, which I am super excited for. Red nail polishes are a whole other story.. and scream jingle bells but I’ll stick to my Fall ones for the time being.

I have quite a large collection of nail polishes, many that have been collected over the years, that I should probably test out to see if they’re still any good.. But nonetheless, like most things we have our go-tos and I’m here to share with you my Top 5 for Fall.

Pumpkin Banana Bread

As soon as fall approaches I turn pumpkin-obsessed. If you’re like me then it is very tempting to go for all the pumpkin flavoured lattes and treats that many places are now offering, even though they are good on the eye but not so good on the wallet. So what does one do to bash these cravings?
